Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The methods behind search engine optimization (aka SEO) are geared toward improving your website's rank within search engine results pages (SERPs). Common strategies include:

  • Web page optimization
    This is the process of finding a delicate balance of various factors on a specific web page. These factors include keyword frequency, keyword prominence, word count, ALT tags, Title tags, etc. The best results are when a single keyword is targeted for a single search engine on a given page.
  • Inbound links
    Every site that links to your site is considered a 'vote' for your site. But not all votes are equal. Votes from more popular, authoritative, related, and unbiased sites are far more valuable. So much so, that a single link from the "right" site can be worth thousands (or tens of thousands!) from other, less desirable sites.

There are a handful of right ways to perform SEO, and hundreds of wrong ways. Be very careful when engaging a company to help you with this. As with most things in life, if it seems too good to be true (i.e. too cheap) it almost certainly is.
